The following specimens are forms of meteorite impact glass formed as bedrock and
meteorite material was vapourised on impact and thrown into the atmosphere where it
condensed as globules of glass.
Tektites - Impact Glass
Indochinite - Thailand
These specimens are all from the vast east
Asian strew field and represent small fragments
(2 to 3 cm/ ~1 inch) in size. Each is black glass
showing the diagnostic surface pitting typical of
these tektites.
A collection of 10 specimens like those illustrated
(left) provide a good sample for most collections

Irgizites - Kazakhstan
These rare specimens of twisted and gnarled
impact glass are from the Zhamanshin Crater of
Kazakhstan. They can differ greatly in their form
compared to Indochinites but are of a very
similar black glass. Average size is 1 to 2 cm.
A collection of 5 specimens like those illustrated
provide a good sample for most collections and
