A very rare specimen from the Pennsylvanian age Calhoun Shale of Kansas. The specimen
measures ~2 inches long and although not fabulous quality is very special in that the stomach
contents are preserved. This was a juvenile fish and was clearly feeding on ostracods as the
stomach cavity is filled with the shells of these tiny crustaceans. Parts of the skin and the fin
bones of the fish are preserved along with much of the head, body and some of the tail. A unique
piece and priced accordingly.                                                                                                $200

Thelodus scotticus - Silurian Thelodont Fish Scales.
These rare specimens are from the Silurian of Scotland and are the scales of
one of the earliest fish. Several types of scale exist for this species as the
image shows. The scales are microscopic, measuring only 1/32 inch (~1 mm)
but are beautiful. The scales are housed in a small capsule that can easily be
opened so the specimens can be examined. There are ~5 scales in each
sample, usually of varying morphology.
$10 per sample. Rare and very interesting.
